IMPLANTS

For many people who are missing teeth, dental implants are the next best thing to having their own. With years of university-based research and clinical use, there’s now a long-lasting, aesthetically pleasing alternative to missing teeth – dental implants.

The Procedure

Dental implant patients are usually placed under local anesthesia in the dental office. The procedure is less traumatic than an extraction and post operatively should be less tender. The implant is placed in the jaw and allowed to heal. This is usually four months. The implant may be temporized immediately but this is usually under special conditions. Most of the time the implant is done in two stages for optimal healing. Stage one is the implant placement and healing. Stage two is the restorative phase. The prosthetic device is fabricated by your Dentist and placed.

Care and Maintenance

To maintain this condition, your dentist will recommend an oral hygiene program. If you follow the program consistently your implants can last as long as your natural teeth.

CROWN LENGTHENING

Crown lengthening is used for restorative and cosmetic dentistry and will also improve the aesthetics of your gum line. Crown lengthening adjusts the bone and gum level so more of the tooth is exposed and can be restored in the cases of dental decay and tooth fracture. If your teeth appear short, gum tissue can be removed to expose more of your teeth and improve your smile. This procedure feels like pressure on the gums, takes 1 hour to complete and generally is healed well enough to eat after 10 days.

The Procedure

Crown lengthening involves reshaping the gum and bone tissue to expose more of the tooth.

Care and Maintenance

To maintain this condition, your dentist will recommend an oral hygiene program.

FREE GINGIVAL GRAFT (RECESSION)

Free Gingival Grafts are designed to enhance or replace the amount of gum supporting a tooth if there is inadequate gum tissue or if recession has occurred to expose the root. This may also improve the esthetics of your gum line. This may reduce further recession and bone loss, protect the tooth from decay, and reduce tooth sensitivity to hot or cold.

Procedure

Gum tissue from the roof of the mouth or another donor source is transplanted to the gum line. This procedure feels like a pizza burn from the donor area, takes 1 hour to complete and is healed within 10 days.

Care and Maintenance

To maintain this condition, your dentist will recommend an oral hygiene program.

PERIO CLEANINGS

A Perio cleaning involves removing plaque and polishing the teeth above the gum line. Polishing procedures can efficiently remove light to heavy stains from teeth.

Procedure

Perio cleanings involve the use of hand tools and/or ultrasound to clean the teeth above the gum line. Polishing techniques involve either high pressure jet of water and a cleaning solution or a low-speed hand held device. This procedure feels like a good teeth cleaning.

Care and Maintenance

To maintain this condition, your dentist will recommend an oral hygiene program.

ROOT PLANING & SCALING

Root planing and scaling are non-surgical and, therefore, less invasive ways to achieve periodontics health. Scaling is a deep cleaning of the teeth below and above the gum line to remove hard calculus and plaque.

The Procedure

Root scaling involves carefully cleaning the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus (tartar) that have accumulated on the tooth, and planing involves making the tooth smooth. Your mouth may be numbed during this procedure. This procedure takes 3 half-hour visits to complete and 3 weeks to heal.

Care and Maintenance

To maintain this condition, your dentist will recommend an oral hygiene program. Often, antibiotics are prescribed to help kill any remaining bacteria.

PERIODONTICS REGENERATION PROCEDURES

These procedures include bone grafts, ridge augmentations, site preservations and root coverage. Each of these procedures will be discussed at the initial visit, as well as, care and maintenance.
