Root planing and scaling dental procedures provide non-surgical alternatives to achieving periodontic health in North Raleigh. Scaling is a deep cleaning of the teeth below and above the gum line to remove hard calculus and plaque.
Root scaling involves carefully cleaning the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus (tartar) that have accumulated on the tooth, and planing involves making the tooth smooth. Your mouth may be numbed during this procedure. This procedure takes 3 half-hour visits to complete and 3 weeks to heal.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
To maintain this condition, your dentist will recommend an oral hygiene program. Often, antibiotics are prescribed to help kill any remaining bacteria.
